Russia-Ukraine conflict

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine began in 2014 when Ukraine's pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych, was overthrown by a popular uprising and replaced by a pro-Western government. Russia, which had annexed Crimea from Ukraine earlier that year, accused the new government of being illegitimate and began supporting separatist rebels in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.

The conflict has been marked by violent clashes between Ukrainian government forces and Russian-backed separatists, resulting in thousands of deaths on both sides. There have also been allegations of war crimes committed by both Ukrainian and separatist forces, including the targeting of civilians.

The international community has been divided over the conflict, with some countries, including the United States and European Union, imposing sanctions on Russia in response to its actions in Ukraine. Others, including China and some Middle Eastern countries, have taken a more neutral stance.

Efforts to resolve the conflict have included multiple ceasefires, negotiations, and international agreements, but a lasting solution has yet to be found. The conflict remains ongoing, with occasional flare-ups of violence and tension between Russia and Ukraine.
